Hello again fellow industrialists! It’s been another very busy week for us. We are super excited about all the new features and updates coming to the next alpha build. This week we want to talk a bit about making our sandbox pre-alpha demo into an amazing game that will keep you entertained for hours on end.
One of the things we always wanted to be a part of the game is a research and development tree. We are in the early stages of design for it at the moment, but it is going to happen.
We want you to feel a sense of progression and experience a true rags-to-riches kind of story. For that to work you will start very small and work your way up. The early game will give you much older technology such as steam trains, coal power plants, and human operated assembly lines. As time progresses you will begin to see new technologies emerge such as diesel trains, oil power plants, and automated manufacturing. Eventually you will invest in advanced technologies like nuclear powered vehicles and even robotic factories!
A research tree will bring a sense of growth and progression to the game that will keep you engaged and excited for every new advancement.
To make the world of Project Automata feel real and personal we are working on designs for player profiles that will allow you to create an in-game persona. This is something we can implement relatively quickly to add character and a unique feeling to the game.
We are also working on a story driven campaign to introduce new players to the world of Project Automata. We have a professional writer working on the story and while we won’t give you any spoilers just yet, we can say it will be an amazing rags-to-riches tale that will draw you into the world and make every decision feel personal and important. We’ll share more as the project continues.
We are still working hard to bring trains into the game. We have several concepts were are working on including some of the higher tier trains. You will begin the game with the kinds of steam trains available during the early 20th century. At the higher tiers you will see trains advance to diesel, nuclear, hydrogen, and more! Each tier will bring, not only visual upgrades, but also performance enhancements that will move those goods around the map faster and more efficiently.
We still have a lot to do, but we wanted to share a little taste of what to expect as we roll on toward the full alpha release. Stay tuned and, if you haven’t already, please come and support us on Kickstarter. We still have time to hit our goal. It will be a challenge, but if everyone helps a little we know we can get there.
